A couple of years ago I was really inspired by a mural in Seattle, “Spirit Bear Destroying the Tar Sands.”  I just love the mythology of local animals fighting back against fossil fuel projects. So I made two similar mash ups with the same theme and now this.

The whooping crane, one of the most endangered birds in the US, has a migration route that overlaps with the Keystone tar sands pipeline. They nest in the same part of Texas where tar sands from Keystone XL refined. I’m sure the whooping crane would destroy the pipeline if it could but instead its up to us.

This is a Fair Use collage of photos by the spectacular wildlife photographer Mike Sloat and game changing activists of the Tar Sands Blockade.
